University of Derby: BA (hons) Photography
On this course photography will be studied as a fine art in a contemporary and exciting programme of work, a wide range of technical skills will also be learnt in the three years at the university as well as a good understanding of the history and theories of Photography.
The campus has a large range of 'state of the art' digital equiptment as well as traditional methods of photography such as dark rooms and studio environments.
The course supports all types of work including black and white, colour and digital, as well as encouraging imaginative approaches to your own work. Regular gallery visits will be arranged and lectures from 'high profile' guests will be held every week as well as technical workshops, lectures and individual tutorials and group critiquing sessions. The degree will end with a final exhibit held in a professional style.
The entry requirements to be able to go and study this course at Derby University is 180-240 ucas points. However portfolios of work are also important.
The reason why i want to do this course is because this covers the whole of the subject as well as the history. I think i may be more suited to this course as then i can gain experience in all areas of photography instead of limiting myself to one area like i would be if i chose to study at Falmouth. If i felt like i wanted to comit myself to one area after studying, i could do this if i went to Derby. However i feel like if i just went straight into Marine and Wildlife photography i would be limiting myself if i decided i wanted to move from that area.
I believe if i worked hard enough i could achieve a career in photography as i'm already passionate about the subject itself.
