Mario Hugo
Mario Hugo grew up in New Jersey and studied fine art at Boston College but after a semi permanent trip to Australia he switched to study art direction at the Pratt Institution at Brookyln. Since his graduation in 2005 he's been working freelance as web designer, art director, illustrator and graphic designer. He's worked with clients such as British Airways, Nike and Dolce and Gabbana illustrations.
At 27 years of age Mario Hugo has already influenced a large generation of young creators with his strong artistic and personal approach. When asked if being a designer, art director and illustrator stands out as being a main focus he replied that they all overlap.
Aside from his creative work he has also set up Hugo and Marie which is a company to represent other designers which also sell their works online. Mario Hugo is affected by colour blindness, however he doesn't let this affect his work, he tries to work more with light, shadows and compositions. He sees colour as an afterthought. Hugos' favourite media is working with graphite on book paper. He feels his work is a 'labour of love.' For his drawings he even scavanges old book stores for paper and tears out the fly sheets that are in the front and the back of the books. Mario Hugo feels that it is a ritual to work by hand.
