De Montfort University

De Montfort University, Leicester: Photography and Video

The course is a three year full time course or if chosen as a part time course will take six years to complete. I became interested in this course as the career opportunities are careers that i would love to become a part of such as; freelance photography, independent production, publishing, advertising, picture research and journalism. As well as many other career choices. Many students of the university have gone onto work for Virgin and UN.titled. Something that also made me want to pick De Montfort as one of my choices is that i believe the course pushes you to become a better photographer, they give 100% encouragement to students to produce work to enter into national, international and regional competitions. As well as amazing facilities at the campus. Technical expertise is all so available within self directed study periods.

The first year modules include, Lens based studies, Concepts of digital media, Photography and Camera vision. Gaining confidence and ability to develop creativity.
The second year becomes creatively more demanding, still and moving image production (research and practice) Professional studies and lens based choices. Building on the second year, the third year you drive your own unique work. Picking between photography or video. This year involves research and development which includes, test pieces, writing and debating. As well as critical reflection. The first module of the course would require personal ideas to a high, professional standard and the next module is expanding the portfolio to a broader context relevant to career aspirations.

The course requires 240 ucas points.
